Seven New Year Things

I’ve decided that I hate memes…so I’ve been ignoring avoiding them (sorry Steph). I keep trying to avoid this one and it just comes back around. Bethany tagged me this time….

7 things I want to do in 2006

1. Have a baby.
2. Visit my family is Wisconsin/Michigan.
3. Break out of my shyness.
4. Start my Ebay business. (Stay tuned for more on this.)
5. Pay off our debts – we’re close folks!!!
6. Walk daily.
7. Get back in church

7 things to do less of in 2006

1. Feeling sorry for myself.
2. Worrying about stupid stuff.
3. Compulsive purchases.
4. Cream of Whatever Soup Recipes.
5. Procrastinate on projects.
6. Cleaning. (Kind of like that old – “I’m giving up school for Lent, Mom.”)
7. Talking about myself.

7 ways I‘m going to be a better wife/mother/friend in 2006

1. Praying more.
2. Listening more.
3. Getting down on the floor and playing – less videos – for the Bump.
4. Returning emails and writing letters, notes to people.
5. More time in the Word.
6. Paying attention to things more.
7. Being more spontaneous.

7 Scripture Passages I want to memorize in 2006

Sorry gang, I’m not that organized that I know 7 scripture passages that I want to learn. I’ve been working my way through James and trying to put down a few to memory there. I don’t know if there are seven of them, and I don’t know where I’ll go next.

7 Books I’ve Never Read that I’m Going to Read in 2006

I have no idea. Maybe a few more Narnias. I just recently started that series. I’ll probably try to get through The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace. Otherwise, no plans. I just finished the final Mitford book, Light from Heaven. Maybe I’ll finish Mere Christianity, too. I think it’s been too long since I put it down and I’ll have to start over.

7 Movies I’ve Never Seen that I’m Going to Watch in 2006

I’ll be lucky if I see seven movies in 2006. Rented Cinderella Man the other day and now am bringing it back unviewed. I’d like to see Luther and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – but if I don’t, I won’t be surpised or upset.

7 people I want to join in too

I am not tagging anyone else. I know that everyone I know is going to “catch” this meme. It’s more contagious than pink eye….

And it just goes to show that I’m not as much of a planner or a New Year’s goal setter as I thought I was.

Friday’s Feast 67 (the year I was born)

Appetizer
Do you button shirts top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top?
Bottom to top. I always seem to get in trouble doing it to….not a very good buttoner.

Soup
What is your favorite sandwich?
Ray’s Favorite at Padow’s Restaurant in Wmbg…I think it is turkey and ham on a sub role with thousand island, coleslaw and provolone.

Salad
What was a family project you helped work on as a child?
Cutting and splitting wood. Every year, we would rent a wood lot to clear. Dad would do all the cutting. We would do the hauling and piling in the truck. Then once a year, he would rent a gas splitter. My favorite job was to run the switch, but I had to split duty with my sis. It was hell.

Main Course
When have you acted phony?
I’m as genuine as they come….

Dessert
Do you write letters or postcards? If so, to whom?
Neither – notecards. Usually thank yous or just thinking of you mostly to my family.

Sal’s Midnight Snack
What is your least favorite stain to remove from carpeting?
Winnie vomit. After all, she is a self cleaning dog. I know, gross. But that’s what I did today. Tomorrow they are coming to professionally reomove the stain. So, light to non-existant blogging hits again.

Join in this one if you dare.

Friday’s Feast

This is so late. Bump turned off the computer mid post – and although I hit the “save” button before it went black, I thought I lost it. So, I just pulled it out of my drafts and finished it up.

Appetizer
Name 3 qualities that are important to you in friendship.
loyalty, humor, faith

Soup
If you could dream about anything tonight, what would the subject matter be?
Bryan Adams, just kidding, some great adventure dream where I win all the kids books in the end.

Salad
Do you usually make an effort to personally thank people who do favors for you?
Always. And I pray for them too.

Main Course
If you had to go out of town for an extended period of time, who would you trust to take care of your home and belongings? My friend, E…she’d do a great job, even if she doesn’t like dogs much.

Dessert
How do you react to practical jokes when they’re played on you?
I’m not very good at them…

Sal’s Breakfast in Bed
What was your favorite childhood vacation?
I think one time we went to Milwaukee to visit family and also ended up at a Brewers game and visiting the museum down there – which at the time I thought was fabulous.

7 celebrity crushes:
1. Perry King (You know, from the old TV show Riptide)
2. Kevin Costner

Faith Meme

I got tagged by Steph. When Carla missed me, I thought that I was home free! Alas, not so. Here it is:

Ten Questions to Ask at the Start of a New Year or On Your Birthday

I’ll answer the same 15 that she did, but if you want to read all the questions, you can click here

Get back into Church.

2. What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
Clear our Debts.

3. What’s the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
Pray more for my husband.

I really want to get deeper into prayer.

5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year?

7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?
My stepkids.

Be more loving. I’m still trying to figure out what that means, but that’s my goal.

9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?I like Carla’s prayer journal idea, too.

10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
In 10 years, how I instill my son with the word of the Lord.
In eternity – how much I can work towards that Love goal.

13. What’s the most important need you feel burdened to meet this year?
Getting our house in order – in many ways.

14. What habit would you most like to establish this year?
Praying every day as a family. Eating more meals together.

15. Who do you most want to encourage this year?
Gil

You can find more questions at that site up there ^^

Steph copied this from Carla’s site, so I’m copying it too:

Friday’s Feast 56

This week’s questions, all the way from the Northwoods of Wisconsin:

Appetizer
What kind of car do you drive? If you could make an even trade for any other car, what would you want to drive?
Well, we have the following fleet at our house:
1993 Plymouth Grand Voyager
1998 Dodge Stratus
1989 Honda Prelude
1974 VW Super Beetle

I drive the Voyager. What I’d really like is a 1998 or 1999 Grand Caravan or Voyager. The last three cars I’ve driven have been 1993. I’m not that fussy. Although I would be happy if someone would take away that Super Beetle….

Soup
Take your phone number and add each number together separately (example: 8+6+7+5+3+0+9=38) – what’s the total?
42
Salad
When were you last outside, and what were you doing?

Main Course
What is your favorite restaurant, and what do you usually order there?
Where would this favorite restaruant be?
I like Casa Maya in Williamsburg. I don’t have a favorite entry yet, although I love their Chili con queso.

In Green Bay, I love Los Banditos – their chicken nachos rule the planet.

In my hometown, I’ve been tasting a lot of delicious favorites which I’m planning a post on complete with photos…

Dessert
Name 3 things in which you occasionally indulge.
Mexican Food.
A Nap
Chai Tea from one of the Coffee houses.

Don’t forget to add your answers on your blog, click here for more information.

Interesting Meme – Sal is…

I saw this over on Donna’s blog, so I thought I’d join in. It’s very simple. You use your first name and the word “is” and Google it. So I Googled, “Sal is…”

And this is what I found out:

Sal is the most developed of the Cape Verde islands.
And I don’t even like to travel.

Sal (Shorea robusta) is a tall handsome tree providing very good quality timber. I’m not that tall, although we have cut down a lot of trees in our yard this year.

Sal is 71 kilometres from Lisbon And I thought I was in VA? Is there a Lisbon in VA?

Sal is a “Native New Yorker.” Nope, but I’m married to one.

SAL is being a “Suck at Life.” Sometimes I feel that way.

Sal is the oldest Zebra we have. I guess I’m pretty old compared to most Zebras.

SAL is a major contributor to the CWF (Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.) No, but I used to work there. (I thought it was really funny that I found this one.)

Sal is always highly motivated. Not always, but lately.

Sal is rude, and everything on Sal is expensive. I would call myself, remote but not rude. Nothing on me is expensive.

Sal is a member of the Hilbert College Hall of Fame. Really, I can’t imagine for what.

Sal is spending time with a new best friend, the snowblower. Um, no thanks. That’s why I moved south.

Sal is a wealth of positive practical parenting know how. Well, I wouldn’t go that far!

Sal is the real deal! What more can I say!!

My results were kind of weird because “Sal” is a man’s name and also an acronym for a lot of other things. Funny I didn’t find my own blog in that search. I think I will now.

It Must Have Been a Beautiful Meme

10 years ago:
I was 28 years old and had just had my second knee surgury. I was living alone, again with my two cats Kramer and Max. It was the hottest summer on record in Green Bay and I had no A/C and was on crutches. I had just started homebrewing that spring and had two batches ready to go.

5 years ago:
I was 33. We were just getting ready to leave Richmond and move to our current location. Casey and Winnie were still in rescue. Bump was still a dream. I was working as a traffic manager at an ocean freight carrier, making everyone and myself miserable. Jesus was still a year away.

1 year ago:
I was 4 months into the great baby adventure, losing my mind a little and feeling very lonely.

Yesterday:
A typical day, except dh was around but working on the screen porch. We played, ran a few errands, ate, went to the park – the usual.

Today:
Very hot and humid today. Trying to convince Bump that indoors is his best place. Doing a lot of our usual stuff.

Tomorrow:
Dh goes back to 2nd shift (from first). Things will seem a little more normal. I’m starting my painting of Mark’s old room tomorrow.

5 snacks I enjoy:
Cheese
Chips and dip
Fresh fruit
Crackers
Did I say Cheese?

5 bands that I know the lyrics of MOST of their songs:
Bryan Adams…well up until 1995 anyway. New stuff…nope.
Third Day
Night Ranger
Chris Joyner
Veggie Tales – sadly

5 things I would do with $100,000,000:
Help a few families I know with debt problems
Buy a mini van – post 1993
Take the family to Disney World
Take us out of Debt
Find a house in the country with a little land and room for 5-10 doggies and a few more kids.

5 locations Id like to run away to:
The Grand Canyon
Wisconsin
Maine
Seattle, WA
Disney World
(not much of a traveler)

5 bad habits I have:
shopping
making faces when people talk to me
thinking out loud
saying no
leaving the closet light on

5 things I like doing:
Hanging out with dh
Blogging
walking the Bump at CW
Reading
Yard saling
Organizing my house (not cleaning)

5 things I would never wear:
Thong or string bikini
low cut or high cut shirt
high cut or low cut pants
spike heeled shoes (especially the little ones that show toes)
eyebrow pencil

5 TV shows I like:
Extreme Makeover – Home Edition
That’s it…I don’t watch TV

5 movies I like:
Field of Dreams
Better off Dead
The Slipper and the Rose
The Amazing Mr. Blunden
Passion of the Christ

5 famous people Id like to meet:
Michelle Malkin
Laura Bush
Susan Wise Bauer
Barbara Curtis
Bryan Adams

5 biggest joys at the moment:
Spending every day with the Bump
Knowing my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
Watching our house become more of a home
Preparing for homeschooling
Yard Saling successes

5 favorite toys: (so many to choose from)
Tonka Trucks
Thomas the Tank Tent
Puppers
Balls
Red Fire Engine that Bump Rides

The Book Meme – Again!

Somehow, I keep getting tagged for the Book Meme.

First Barbara got me, and then I posted this.

Now this week both Loni and Norma tagged me…so here’s my answers. They have changed slightly since last week.

What is the total number of books you have ever owned?
Probably between 2000-3000 and growing fast. I have probably acquired about 50 books since I last posted this meme – yard sales are great aren’t they?

What is the last book you have purchased?
I just bought some of Barbara Curtis’s books online tonight. (Really, this time I have.) I also bought about 10 kids books at a yard sale on Saturday including Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat.

What is the last book you have read?
I just finished Created To Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl after three months – that’s a long time for me to be reading a book. I also read Levi’s Will by W. Dale Kramer. You can find links for the reviews in the sidebar.

What are 5 books that mean a lot to you?
This is the one that’s changed.

  1. The Bible – ESV or NLT version. How can it not be on any Christian’s list?
  2. The Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer. Okay, I haven’t read the whole thing yet – but after 60 pages, I’m hooked. This is a book about Classical Homeschooling, which blows my mind! I’m very excited about it. I have a little post I’m working on regarding this.
  3. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls – Still one of my top books. I can’t wait for the Bump to read it.
  4. What’s So Amazing About Grace? by Philip Yancy – This book helped me understand Biblical grace – something I never learned about in over 30 years in the church.
  5. Trixie Belden Mystery Series by Julie Campbell and Kathleen Kenny – I am Trixie Belden….

No I’m not tagging anyone else – and nobody else better try and tag me on this one!
